Pirelli & Lamborghini 50 years

Pirelli and Lamborghini have been working together since 1963 - 50 years - a golden anniversary for the two traditional brands from Italy.

High performance and passion

The founder of Lamborghini (the brand now belongs to the Volkswagen Group) was a certain Ferruccio Lamborghini and in 1963 asked PIRELLI to equip the first prototype of the newly founded sports car brand, the 350 GTV, with a sports tire.

Lamborghini then presented the 350 GTV and the production version 350 GT a year later at the Geneva Motor Show, as it was then already fitted with the Pirelli Cinturato HS. The Cinturato HS was developed for sports cars and designed for a top speed of 240 km / h. (240 km / h - that was an enormous speed in the mid-60s.)  The abbreviation HS stood for "High Speed" and made it clear that the tire was able to cope with the high speed of the super sports cars of the 1960s.

Pirelli and the new Lamborghini

Pirelli P7

The sports tires at the time were all tough rubber rollers with a cross-section that was unusually high for us today. Until the Lamborghini Miura appeared on the market in the early '70s. For this new sports car, Lamborghini wanted a sports tire from Pirelli that had lower sidewalls for more stable handling and more grip. The Cinturato CN73 in size 225/70 VR 15 was the pioneer of the later “low-profile tire” and the next generation of sports tires called “P7”.

When Lamborghini presented the - today legendary - Countach in 1971, the Pirelli P7 was the tire of the hour and was chosen for the original equipment by the Italian sports car manufacturer.

For the new generation of Lamborghini sports cars from 1990, there was also a new name for the continuously evolving sports tires from PIRELLI. The P Zero was born.

Today, the P Zero is a whole tire family become. The Rosso as, the Silver, the Nero and also the Corsa system represent an enormous range of extremely sporty tires that provide the right answers for every type of sports car and every requirement.

And because you have to celebrate the festivals as they fall - I will celebrate my very own Pirelli Lamborghini festival in a few weeks, with a visit to Lamborghini directly! Stay true to the blog and don't miss out when I get to know the Diablo.
