Impressions from the world premiere of the AM-RB 001

Aston Martin probably has the only carFabrik Manufactory that looks like a futuristic-aristocratic bulwark from the outside. Inside, the manufactory character then predominates. Almost too normal for the birthplace of the Aston Martin models. But, first and foremost, it is an automobile plant. Only on this day is there a state of emergency. The ligaments stand still, instead the air vibrates with tension. Deafening noise as the current Red Bull F1 drives into the hall with Daniel Ricciardo at the wheel. The show is well planned and doesn't fail to have an impact. Enthusiasm on the faces of the Aston Martin employees.

British hypercar - made by “Zuckerbrause” and Aston Martin

Adrian Newey and Christian Horner accept the fact that there are racing drivers in Formula 1 who like to ridicule the Red Bull F1 team as the “Zuckerbrause Team”. They even joke about it. Everyone is aware that Red Bull F1 has shown what is possible. The F1 team is one of the top teams in Formula 1. And Aston Martin has had a new engine sponsor since the beginning of the year. (Let's ignore the fact that engines with French roots are currently roaring in the 2016er Red Bull.)

Red Bull and Aston Martin, a mix that couldn't be more vibrant. On the one hand a high-tech racing team, on the other hand the traditional British brand Aston Martin. And one name becomes particularly important: Adrian Newey. He is considered the most successful F1 designer in history. He has continuously developed F1 world championship racing cars and yet, a dream is said to have been denied him so far. His “own” sports car designed by him for the road. But if you add 1 + 1 + 1, you quickly notice that an Aston Martin - developed with the heart of Red Bull and the brainpower of Adrian Newey - will not just be just another sports car. This is why the class of “hypercars” was invented.

Three times as expensive as a Porsche 918

A futuristic super sports car with roots in the formula 1. As Daniel Ricciardo, Adrian Newey, Christian Horner and Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer (Incidentally, his career is characterized above all by the Nissan brand, which means he can bridge the gap to the previous Red Bull engine partner Infiniti) unveiled the AM-RB 001 in front of the enthusiastic Aston Martin workforce at the Gaydon plant, it quickly becomes clear: Adrian Newey will not accept 08 / 15 solutions for this design either.

Huge air ducts, a large diffuser and the integration of the passenger cell in a chassis made of carbon - this hypercar will not change the limits of physics, but it will shift the dimensions that can be experienced.

The facts are still rare. A balance between weight and performance.

So, less than 1.000 kilograms curb weight, but more than 900 hp? And for Adrian Newey it can only be a V12 engine. No other engine promises this performance, not charged, because Adrian Newey wants to maintain the explosive character of the naturally aspirated engine, pure revving. It will be exciting to see how Aston Martin and Red Bull implement the requirements. The AM-RB 2 should go into series production in less than 001 years. More than £ 2.5 million expensive. And no more than 150 copies. Along with Aston Martin and Red Bull is the boy dream of Adrian Newey now matured into a glamorous hypercar project.

It is clear that in the end the hypercar line-up of Bugatti, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari will be ironed out there, on this day, in this place, in the most aristocratic of all car manufacturers.
