For many car owners, all-season tires have become an alternative to the summer or winter specialists. A Swiss auto trade magazine now wanted to know whether the size of the tire has an influence on its seasonal characteristics.
The Swiss trade magazine "auto-illustrated“Has the all-season tire with the support of TÜV Süd Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons tested to find out what influence the tire size has on winter and summer suitability.
Which tires were tested?
The Goodyear tires competed in the dimensions 195/65 R15, 205/55 R16, 225/45 R17 and as a reference tire in size 225/40 R18. The test vehicle was a Golf VIII, which was used in wintry St. Moritz and in the hot Mireval in the south of France.
In what size did the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons convince?
The test series showed that the differences between the individual sizes are small. The 16-inchers have slightly better winter properties, the 17-inchers score slightly under summery conditions.
In the winter test, the 16-inch vehicle was particularly impressive when accelerating on snow. Overall, the tires in all four sizes showed good traction and braking properties. In summer temperatures, the 17-inch test configuration took the lead in terms of braking and driving stability. But the other dimensions also passed the test requirements with good results.
