Alternative drives at Rolls-Royce - all or nothing

The Rolls-Royce remains the conventional combustion engine first choice. The new edition of the flagship Phantom, which will be presented next summer, will continue to be available exclusively with twelve-cylinder petrol engines. The BMW subsidiary certainly has alternatives in the drawer. "We are also prepared for the topic of electromobility. However, demand has so far not existed, "said Peter Paul Schoppmann, Germany boss of Rolls-Royce. 2011 had presented the luxury manufacturer, the study of an electric version of the phantom, the reactions of potential customers, however, were sobering.

Even plug-in hybrids with electric and combustion engine are currently not planned at Rolls-Royce. "We will not take any intermediate steps", says Schoppmann. If the demand for e-cars increases or is created by driving bans for cars with internal combustion engine, Rolls-Royce wants to go directly with all-electric models. (Holger Holzer / SP-X)
