Audi SQ5 TDI: cleaner on the road

The Audi SQ5 TDI will be launched next year with a modernized emission control system. The performance shrinks, but the pulling power improves.

After the standard models, Audi has now also launched the sportiest diesel variant of the Q5. Thanks to the new SCR catalytic converter technology, the 3,0-liter six-cylinder in the SQ5 TDI now meets the requirements of the upcoming emissions standard, but has a slight loss in nominal output. Instead of 255 kW / 347 PS, the data sheet now contains 251 kW / 341 PS.

The maximum torque remains constant at 700 Nm, but thanks to a fast, appealing turbocharger, it is now 1.750 instead of 2.500 tours. As before, 48-volt mild hybrid technology and an electric compressor should ensure low consumption. The power transmission worried an eight-speed automatic, all-wheel drive is also standard. A sport differential is available on request.

The designers have also made slight design changes to the mid-size SUV. The most conspicuous innovation are the rear lights in OLED technology. In Germany, the SQ5 TDI will be available to dealers in the first quarter of 2021. Audi still specifies the entry-level price at 16 percent VAT; it is 68.138 euros. That corresponds to 69.900 euros at 19 percent VAT.
