As an alternative to the twelve-cylinder gasoline, there is for the luxury SUV Bentley Bentayga now a V8 diesel. The first ever offered by the British brand diesels draws from four liters displacement 320 kW / 435 horsepower, the consumption is the manufacturer with 7,9 liters on 100 kilometers.
The Bentayga diesel is not only the most fuel-efficient Bentley of all time, but also the cheapest. With a base price of 174.335 Euro, it is around 34.000 Euro under the W12 version and a few hundred euros below the previous entry-level coupe GT V8.
The British VW subsidiary takes over the V8 diesel from the technically related Audi SQ7, from which the unusual configuration with two exhaust gas turbochargers and an electrically driven compressor comes, which is supplied with power via an additional 48-volt electrical system. The maximum torque of 900 Nm is therefore already at 1.000 revolutions. The four-wheel drive with eight-speed automatic completes the sprint to 100 km / h in 4,8 seconds, the top speed is 270 km / h.
Visually, the Bentayga does not make a big deal out of its brand-name engine. The labels on the body just mention the number of cylinders, but not the way of working. Insiders recognize the diesel on the black radiator grille. The launch will start at the beginning of 2017 in Europe, followed later by Russia, South Africa and Australia. An introduction in the US is not planned.
