Car bestseller in March - Mercedes conquers two segments

In March 2017, the Federal Motor Transport Authority increased significantly Pkw-Registrations recorded. Accordingly, 359.683 new cars came onto the road, which corresponds to an increase of 11,4% compared to the previous year. Despite a slight decline, in March 2017 the compact cars were again the highest-volume segment for new car registrations in Germany. With 84.826 newly registered copies, their market share was 23,6 percent. The SUVs (+2016%) and off-road vehicles (+ 28,3%) in particular increased significantly compared to March 18,5. With 81.993 vehicles and a market share of 22,8 percent, they together form the second strongest segment. The largest increases after the SUVs were recorded by the utilities (16.740 / + 26%) and the large vans (14.868 / + 20,4%).

As always, the most popular model was the VW Golf with 23.340 new registrations (-8,6%). However, there were changes in management in five other segments. In the middle class, the Mercedes C-Class (6.861 / + 17,7%) was able to replace the VW Passat from 1st place, and with the E-Class (4.864 / + 72,1%) Mercedes also sat in the upper middle class to the top. The BMW 7 Series (602 / + 1,0%) has replaced the Mercedes S-Class in the luxury class. In the sports car segment, the Porsche 911 (963 / + 28,1%) was able to take the top spot from the Audi TT, while there was an internal brand change in Utilities: here the VW Caddy had to replace the VW Transporter (3.950 / + 15,8%) give way.

The leaders of the previous month were able to maintain their positions in the other classes. In the minis, the VW Up (4.016 / + 19,4%) was in front, while in the small cars the VW Polo continued to dominate (8.517 / + 38,9%). The Ford Kuga is number 1 for the SUVs (4.495 / + 35,2%), for the SUVs the VW Tiguan (6.983 / + 25,9%). The best-selling mini-van was again the Mercedes B-Class (3.137 / + 4,9%), as well as the Fiat Ducato motorhomes (3.800 / -1,1%). (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
