The Car market weakens again after an intermediate high. However, this does not apply to e-mobiles.
The number of new car registrations fell in July for the first time since February. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) 236.393 new cars rolled onto German roads, 25 percent fewer than a year ago. The private market is particularly hard hit, with almost 36 percent fewer new registrations. Nevertheless, the current year shows a slightly positive trend with 1,63 million cars after seven months and an increase of 6,7 percent compared to the comparable period of 2021.
Alternative drives are in great demand in the car market
One of the reasons for the weak July is the lack of availability of new vehicles. In addition to the ongoing shortage of chips, the seasonal works holidays in many factories also contribute to this.
In July, cars with alternative drives were again in demand. The registrations of all-electric cars rose by 52 percent to 25.464 units, the plug-in hybrids increased by 58 percent to 30.154 vehicles. Overall, the e-mobiles have a market share of 23,6 percent. This puts them ahead of the diesel with almost 20 percent and behind the gasoline engine with 39 percent. The rest of the market is shared by hybrids, natural gas and LPG models.
