Chrysler Portal Concept - brimming with a future

The major future topics in the car industry are electric drive, autonomous driving and complete networking. A new ChryslerStudy called Portal has all three themes in it. It is currently celebrating its premiere at CES in Las Vegas.

The Amoled displays from Samsung allow three-dimensional representations

As you'd expect from a study, the portal not only offers an airy interior, but - as the name suggests - also an extravagant door concept. Getting in is particularly easy thanks to the sliding doors opening in opposite directions and the absence of B-pillars. The portal offers six individual seats on three rows, which can be shifted in length, folded down or even removed.

One of the factors responsible for the good space economy is a compact, all-electric front-wheel drive. About engine power and driving values makes Chrysler no information. The 100-kWh battery, which saves space in the vehicle floor, is said to allow stately 400 kilometers of range, according to the manufacturer. Thanks to fast charging technology, power for 240 kilometers can be fed into the batteries in just 20 minutes.

From the supplier Magneti Marelli comes the extroverted lighting concept of the portal. In addition to LED headlights, the Chrysler study offers all-round large LED panels that tell the environment thanks to variable fluorescent colors, whether the vehicle is parked, autonomous driving or just locked.

In cooperation with the electronics company Panasonic, a new man-machine interface was also developed for the portal. Among other things, the technology allows driver identification via face and voice recognition. Different drivers can also store personal profiles for various vehicle settings in the portal. In addition, the inmates should be able to use a variety of social media applications in the fully networked and equipped with eight docking stations vehicle. The display and operating concept in the cockpit relies on large Amoled screens from Samsung. Finally, the portal can also drive independently. For this purpose, the Chrysler study was equipped with numerous sensors, a radar system and an 360 degree camera. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
