Cupra born

The Cupra Born is the dynamic in the VW Group's electric car family. Therefore, he can be stronger and faster than his closest relative.

After VW, Skoda and Audi, Seat is now also presenting its first interpretation of the Group's electrical modular system. The five-door compact car Born will be launched in autumn under the logo of the sporty brand offshoot Cupra and is available in different drive and battery variants, which cover a performance range from 110 kW / 150 PS to 170 kW / 231 PS. The ranges are between 340 and 540 kilometers.

Interior remains independent

While the Cupra shares the technology with the VW ID3 and ID4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 E-Tron, it optically sets its own, especially sporty accents. Instead of a crossover, the Spaniard appears as a compact sedan with large cooling air inlets, dynamically looking headlights and a flatter roofline that is much more cheeky than the similarly cut VW ID3. Inside, it differs from the sober North German relative with the same basic equipment through special colors and materials as well as an independent steering wheel.

When it comes to the drive, the Cupra wants to set itself apart from the group kinship - at least in the top engine. Thanks to the optional "E-Boost" function, this increases the normal output from 150 kW / 204 PS for a short time to 170 kW / 231 PS, which is said to be particularly advantageous when overtaking and starting traffic lights. The top speed of this variant is 180 km / h, 20 km / h higher than that of the VW ID3. The top model will not be delivered until 2022. On the other hand, there are no differences between the nations in the 110 kW / 150 PS entry-level model and the 150 kW / 204 PS variant without e-boost.

Charging technology like at VW

Depending on the motor power, there are smaller and larger batteries. In the basic model, the version with 45 kWh is used, in the more powerful models with 58 or 77 kWh. When it comes to charging technology, Seat should be based on VW. The basic model would charge with 7,2 kW (AC) or 50 kW (DC), the more powerful versions with 11 kW (AC) and 125 kW (DC). Cupra advertises that energy can be recharged in 7 minutes for a 100-kilometer journey.

Seat has not yet announced prices for the Cupra Born. The comparable VW ID3 starts at 31.500 euros, the 204 hp version with a larger battery is available from 35.000 euros. In both cases, just under 10.000 euros in funding are still going away.
