Anyone who wants to save money, has space and does not need a car for the boulevards of this world, will be with Renaults daughter Dacia find. Around 10.500 Euro wants the Romanian brand for the Duster - that is an unrivaled low base price for an SUV. For this, the customers get a robust vehicle with sophisticated Renault technology. Used is a good model for the 8.000 Euro. But what about the quality of the price breaker from previous ownership?
Body and Interior: Dacia renounces protz and premium and fully relies on the low price. How it works? In order to be able to produce so cheaply, the technology is recycled from the parent company Renault. In the case of the Duster it is the platform of the old Clio on which the SUV is based.
Although the 4,32 meter long five-seater is not an automobile beauty, yet the eye bothers in the cheapest SUV of the Republic not in strange shapes. Even in the interior you should not expect chic or high quality materials. After all, the cockpit is easy to operate and the interior is robust. After the facelift in the spring of 2014, the bestseller among the low-budgeters has received a number of new decorative consoles in addition to a shiny chrome grille, redesigned Schweinwerfern and optimized tail lights. But it stays practically practical inside.
Engines: There are no delicacies under the bonnet either. Not only the platform is known, but also the various four-cylinder engines come from Renault, where they were previously used in Scenic. The four-wheel drive comes from Nissan, who used it in the Qashqai.
For the Duster stand on gasoline side units with 77 kW / 105 PS or 92 kW / 125 PS. The smaller gasoline engine is also available with LPG. The diesels cover a performance range from 63 kW / 86 PS to 81 kW / 110 PS. The best compromise between power and economy is offered by the 90 PS's powerful diesel engine, which also directs its power to all four wheels.
Equipment and safety: If you are looking for luxury and comfort, Dacia does not need to look. For example, at the beginning ESP was only available in the most expensive four-wheel drive version with a diesel engine. Only since the facelift 2014 include the electronic stability control and four airbags as standard. However, if the previous owner had a good budget and opted for the higher equipment levels, at least some comfort was on board. In terms of security, the Romanian but then convince little. In the EuroNCAP crash test, the Duster 2011 was only able to get three out of five possible stars.
Quality: Can you trust the quality of the unrivaled low-cost SUV? Although the technology is robust and the overall processing is fine, at TÜV the shortcomings on axle springs and damping are already slightly higher than the average of all cars tested at the first HU. Also with the lighting there are complaints: Again, the Duster is with twice as much adjusted or defective dipped headlights above average, as well as the brakes. Here, the tests often criticize the function of the foot brake. To be fair, however, it must be acknowledged that price-sensitive customers often do not invest much more money in care, maintenance and repairs after purchase - unlike their original, more expensive competitors. Nevertheless, the exhaust systems wear out quickly, more than three times as often complained as in the cut. It is therefore recommended to take a close look at the maintenance booklet of the car.
Conclusion: With the Duster ride all those who do not see a car as a status symbol and can live with the simple technology. If you are looking for a good used SUV, you should invest at least 7.900 Euro. In addition, one should rather seek a well-stocked model from the higher equipment lines. Then at least a little comfort on board.
