First Ride: The new Infiniti Q60 Coupe

With the second generation of the Infiniti Q60, the Japanese luxury brand manufacturer from Nissan is continuing a small, albeit fine tradition of coupés since 2002. At that time, Infiniti sent the G35 or G37 into the race to gain market share in the middle class worldwide. At the beginning of 2014, the first generation of the Q60 Coupé based on the Q50 rolled out onto the market. Just three years later, Infiniti is now presenting the second generation of the Q60, which also has its origins in the Q50 mid-range car. With the models Q30, Q50, Q60 Coupé and Q70, Infiniti sees its portfolio almost covered. The Q60 is supposed to close a small gap between the Q50 and Q70. Its engine, consisting of two gasoline engines with 2.0 liters and 3.0 liters displacement, is already in use in the existing models. Infiniti is now offering the basic package of the Q60 to its customers for purchase. The mid-range coupé can be ordered at an entry-level price of € 44.500.

The new Infiniti Q60 Coupé in the driving report

Luxury, made in Japan

The Japanese carmaker Nissan has been attracting its premium customers since 1989 with the launch of its "luxury brand" INFINITI. Initially ridiculed in Europe, the dealer network was continuously built up. At the beginning of this year, the brand is already represented with 11 Infiniti Centers and 24 Infiniti Service Centers in Germany. Another 14 centers are planned by April 2018. The Q60 should stand out with its dynamically progressive design. The double arch grille, which makes the mid-range coupé stand massive and wide on the street with its front view, is unmistakable. The distinctive curved bead that connects the front and rear also gives the Q60 the typical coupé look. Its overall appearance is sporty and powerful, which is reflected in the consumption figures. To get a first impression of its overall performance, Infiniti invited to the area around Frankfurt am Main for a day. There my-auto-blog editor Stefan Beckmann was able to experience the new Q60 with both engines for the first time.

Fits well into the cityscape.

Fine ambience

The interiors of the Q60 2.0t AT Premium Tech and Q60S 3.0t AT AWD Sports Tech are equipped with high quality leather and delicate seams filigree. The complex information of the vehicle, such as the driver assistance systems and the on-board computer displays the cockpit clearly and easily. Eye-Catcher is the navigation system, which is available as an option only in the basic version, and which uses the "Light Package" option to display a reversing camera with "Around-View" view. The comfortable leather seats absorb the driver and front passenger well and provide the necessary grip during sporty driving. For sufficient legroom is ensured only on the front seats. Guests in the rear have limited space, but this is just the Coupélayout owed. A good all-round visibility is ensured with neat seat adjustment. A bulk purchase in the furniture or hardware store is the Q60 Coupe rather a difficult undertaking, but still holds his trunk 342 liter. This should at least be enough for grocery shopping.

Elegance also in the interior.

Motors with increased power

Analyzes of the market led those responsible at Infiniti from the Swiss Rolle to the result that they were working with existing engines. For this purpose, the 2.0 liter petrol engine from the Q30 and Q50 and the 3.0 liter V6 petrol engine from Mercedes-Benz were used. Both are aggregates that not only impress with their key figures. If the 2.0 liter engine uses 155 kW (211 PS / 5.500 rpm) at 350 Newton meters (1.250 - 3.500 rpm), the V6 revs up properly and delivers 298 kW (405 PS / 6.400 rpm) at 475 Newton meters (1.600 - 5.200 rpm). These performance data accelerate the Japanese Coupé from standstill to 7,3 km / h in 5,0 or 100 seconds, at a top speed of 235 or 250 km / h. The Euro-6 engines are combined with a seven-speed automatic transmission and an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) in the V6 engine, which distributes 50% of the power between the front and rear axles if necessary. According to Manufacturers give an average fuel consumption of 6,8 liters and 9,1 liters respectively. However, it will be difficult to adhere to this when it comes to the performance of the units.

Whether 2 liter or 3 liter displacement - pure performance!

Driving in the comfort zone

The seven-speed automatic transmission had a positive effect on our first trips. Directly appealing, sporty and agile, it leads us through the city of Frankfurt am Main and the neighboring Taunus with a lot of driving fun. The Q60 masters the selected routes on the short driving presentation from Infiniti with a sovereign ease in connection with the electronically controlled power steering. Thanks to the low center of gravity, the Coupé can be moved quickly through the canyons and over the country roads.

Does not need large spaces for maneuvering.

Prices in the luxury area

The entry-level version of the Q60 Coupé, the Q60 2.0t AT “Premium”, has a list price of € 44.500. Included in the standard package, the Japanese supply a stop-start system, speed-dependent power steering, lane departure warning (LDW), forward collision warning (FCW) including predictive forward collision warning (PFCW), hill start aid, multifunction steering wheel and 19-inch light alloy tires. The surcharge for the next equipment option “Sport” of 2.000 euros includes, among other things, a steering comfort package (direct adaptive steering and active lane monitoring). With the following optional packages, Infiniti offers several customization options: lighting package (€ 1.300 - adaptive headlights, Smart Beam, Around View Monitor), ambience package (€ 600 - heated, electrically adjustable and electrically folding exterior mirrors with curb view in reverse, steering column with electric height and longitudinal adjustment, ambient light, memory function for driver's seat, steering column and exterior mirrors), multimedia package (€ 3.300 - Infiniti navigation system with traffic information, BOSE® performance audio system with 13 speakers).

Stands wide on the street.

And finally ... The Q60 really rounds off the image of the Infiniti family. With the Coupé, Infiniti offers pure individualization, now also in the middle class. It is not just the vehicle itself that represents the “premium” rating.

Coupé in perfection.

The overall performance of the Infiniti Q60 Coupé demonstrates that it belongs to the luxury class. As an alternative to the usual luxury bodies, the Q60 is a good choice for new purchases.
