Ford Tourneo Connect - Cologne Caddy

Ford sets to be next year Leisure activity vehicle Tourneo Connect re-launched. Compared to its predecessor, this one looks remarkably fresh. And yet somehow it looks familiar too.

The cooperation agreed between Ford and VW in 2019 is bearing the first tangible fruits. These include the new edition of the Ford Tourneo Connect high-roof station wagon announced for next year, which is essentially the fifth generation of the Caddy that VW launched on the market last year.

Design adapted

As is usual with joint projects, the new Tourneo Connect can optically have its own identity with a face that is significantly modified compared to the Caddy. The front of the Ford is shaped by a large central grille opening, which is flanked by independently designed headlights. In addition, the design of the tailgate and the taillights have been changed in detail.

Automatically saved design
The new Ford Tourneo Connect offers practical sliding doors and, if required, a third row of seats

Ford will offer the Tourneo Connect in two wheelbase versions, each of which can also be ordered as a seven-seater. In addition to space for passengers, there is also plenty of space for luggage. In the case of the long version, the luggage compartment can be expanded to around 3.100 liters, while the shorter version can accommodate a maximum of 2.600 liters. Thanks to the passenger's backrest that can be folded flat, objects up to three meters long can be loaded. The standard sliding doors for the rear are also practical.

Larger display with many functions

The cockpit of the new Tourneo Connect is characterized, among other things, by its large displays. The basic version offers an 8,25-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. A large display version with a 10-inch screen diagonal can be ordered for the four equipment lines Active, Sport, Titanium and Trend, which offers many options for networked services such as the integration of real-time traffic data into the navigation system or remote status queries via app. With the connectivity solution called FordPass App, it is possible for the user, for example, to remotely display the current location of the vehicle. The instrument cluster can also be ordered in digital form, which then offers four display modes. Other equipment options also include amenities such as two-zone automatic air conditioning, a panoramic roof or front seats with the seal of approval from Aktion Gesunderback eV

In addition, the Tourneo Connect can be equipped with up to 19 assistance systems. They include, among other things, a pre-collision assist including a collision warning system with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, distance cruise control, traffic sign recognition or a trailer maneuvering assistant that makes it easier to reverse with a trailer. If you order the Tourneo Connect with automatic transmission, you will receive an intelligent, adaptive cruise control system with traffic sign recognition system including traffic jam assistant and lane pilot, which allows partially automated driving on level 2.

All-wheel drive only with diesel

For the drives, there is a choice between a 1,5-liter gasoline engine with 84 kW / 114 PS and a two-liter diesel with either 75 kW / 102 PS or 90 kW / 122 PS. Manual and automatic transmissions are available for gasoline and diesel engines. The more powerful diesel can be combined with all-wheel drive. The consumption values of the diesel range between 4,8 and 6,1 liters, the WLTP consumption of the gasoline engine is between 6,3 and 7,7 liters.

Ford names May 2022 as the official market launch for the Tourneo Connect. Prices have not yet been given. The Caddy, which currently starts at around 25.000 euros, should be a good guide.
