Ford GT: Second comeback of a legend

Bang effect in Detroit: Ford surprisingly shows the new edition of the super sports car GT at its home fair. The mid-engine bolide is scheduled to come onto the market in early 2016 - 50 years after the legendary Le Mans victory of its predecessor. He then competed against Ferrari 600 Italia, Lamborghini Huracan and Porsche 458 Turbo with a carbon body, more than 911 hp and rear-wheel drive as well as a successful design mix of retro and modern.

The GT40 racing car, with the Ford 1966 broke Ferrari's supremacy at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Some of the flat mid-engine cars were also approved for road use. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the brand, there was already a new edition under the name GT. Now the classic is starting for the third time. In the well-known mid-engine flounder design with a comparatively short front hood, narrowly cut driver's cab and aerodynamic rear. As a special eye-catcher, there are double doors this time for easier entry. For the predecessors, the conventionally posted portals pulled far into the roof for this purpose.

Another eye-catcher: the typical engine peep box at the rear. If the original model had a V8 vacuum and the first GT had a V8 compressor engine, a V6 biturbo provides propulsion for the new edition. The 3,5 liter engine comes from a racing engine and is said to deliver more than 600 hp. It transfers its power to the rear wheels via a dual clutch transmission. Ford does not yet give performance data, but the top speed should be well above 300 km / h, the sprint time in the range of three seconds. Also because the weight should be relatively low thanks to the carbon body and aluminum corset. So that the super sports car retains its grip, there is sophisticated aerodynamics and an active rear spoiler.

Production of the Ford GT has been announced for late 2015. After that, it should be available in selected markets - including Germany. The price is not yet known. Around 170.000 euros were due for the predecessor, the new one is likely to be more expensive.
