Revised a year and a half after market launch Ford his mini SUV Ecosport. The crossover, which is only available with front-wheel drive, will have a refurbished interior, new equipment options and a modified chassis with more comfortable tuning from June. The prices should continue to start at around 19.000 euros.
The most striking change is the omission of the spare wheel on the tailgate opening on the side. The previously mandatory off-road style element is now only available on order. Chrome interior parts and dimmable lighting are said to enhance the somewhat meager interior. Newly tuned dampers are used on the chassis, and the body has been lowered by one centimeter. In the course of the year, a navigation device and a reversing camera can be found on the options list for the first time. In addition, the new equipment package "S" with rear diffuser, special blue paint and special 17-inch wheels will be available in the coming winter.
The drive range also includes two petrol engines with 82 kW / 112 PS and 92 kW / 125 PS as well as a diesel, which now delivers 70 kW / 95 PS instead of 66 kW / 90 PS. All engines are coupled to manual five-speed gearboxes and drive the front wheels.
Ford first brought the Ecosport, which was originally only developed for South America, over from Brazil in early 2014 to participate in the booming market for small SUVs. So far, however, with rather modest success: In the current year only 916 customers were found; the compact model Kuga, which was designed more according to European taste, wanted more than six times as many buyers.
