Genesis GV 60

The Genesis brand, which belongs to Hyundai, launched several series in Germany in a very short time in 2021. The first purely electrically powered model is now following. The Koreans rely on group technology for this, but also do some things differently.

With the AGM 60 brings the Korean brand genesis already the sixth model series within a few months on the German market. The SUV is also the first vehicle with a purely battery-electric drive. The premium brand belonging to Hyundai uses the latest group technology, which is already used in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV 6 models and has, among other things, a quick charging system with up to 800 volts. This means that the battery with a capacity of 77,4 kWh can be charged from ten to 350 percent in 18 minutes using a 80 kW fast charger.

Purely electric in the spring

While the sedans and SUVs of the 70s and 80s were only available with powerful but not exactly economical diesel and petrol engines, the GV 60 is now only available with three different electric motors. From 2025, Genesis wants to offer all new models with a purely electric drive and five years later to become a completely zero-emission brand.

With a choice of one unit (168 kW/229 hp) and rear-wheel drive, with two motors that send 168 kW/229 hp to the rear axle and 74 kW/100 hp to the front axle, and as a top-of-the-line model also with two motors that are divided equally With an output of 320 kW/436 hp and whose output can be boosted to 10 kW/360 hp for 490 seconds, the GV 60 will be available in the spring. The prices will probably start at around 50.000 euros (before deducting the innovation premium) for the single-engine version.

With the typical LED signature

Visually, the relationship between the SUV and the models in the larger series can be seen, above all in the striking light signature, which consists of two rows of LED lights arranged one above the other in the headlights and rear lights. Despite the well-known ingredients of a modern crossover - i.e. an exposed (honeycomb) radiator grille, relatively long bonnet, sloping windscreen and roof line sloping towards the rear - the GV 60 sets special accents and wants to show its own identity in everyday traffic. In addition to the LED signature, the all-round chrome brackets are typical of the brand.

Inside, in addition to the meticulous workmanship, the well thought-out room concept, with many shelves, cup holders and USB ports, is particularly impressive. The driver looks at two large monitors, which at first glance look like one large connected display, but are actually separated from each other by a screen about 8 centimeters wide in the middle - it still looks very classy, especially if you add the comfort package corresponding digital exterior mirrors on board. Then there are two more small monitors in the doors, which transmit the image from the cameras installed in the doors instead of the mirrors into the interior.

Individual options inside

Speaking of equipment: Genesis does not rely on an “everything-included program” for all vehicles, but will probably offer three equipment options with the Premium, Luxury and Sport Lines, which can also be expanded to include a technology and a comfort package . There are also individual options such as seats covered with nappa leather. However, the young brand attaches great importance to offering high-quality artificial leather chairs that are certified as sustainable. Either way: As with the German and international premium competition á la Lexus and Jaguar, you can easily spend a five-digit amount for packages and individual extras with the Koreans.

The first row wins

The space is for this class, the GV 60 measures 4,52 meters in length and thus almost exactly as much as a VW Tiguan, extremely generous. Less in the luggage compartment volume, which is rather modest with 432 liters at the rear plus the 53 or 20 liter compartment under the front hood for all-wheel drive models. But the driver and passengers enjoy a lot of freedom, at least if there aren't three passengers in the back. In the rear, tall people only have to watch their heads a little, both when getting in and afterwards. The sloping roof line has a negative impact here.

At least for the time being, there will not be an option in Germany. Genesis offers facial recognition-style door unlocking in other markets. The camera for this would be placed in the B-pillar. In this country, however, this probably fails due to data protection, after all, the camera should also scan people who just want to take a curious look at the well-designed interior.
