The project surrounding the new Honda Civic, for the WTCC factory engagement in 2013, is now entering a hot phase. You will do some racetrack tests later this year. An important role is played by the new works driver for the plant commitment of the traditional Japanese brand, which is responsible for the Italian JAS team. With Gabriele Tarquini, the Japanese were able to sign a successful and experienced WTCC pilot.
The WTCC-Honda Civic is to drive 3 more WTCC races as a “dress rehearsal” this year. Suzuka is planned in October, as well as Shanghai and Macau in November.
The final shape of the 2012 WTCC Civic was unveiled last week. The changes in the bumper area are striking. Extensive wind tunnel tests preceded these changes. The biggest development of the Japanese, however, is under the sheet metal and concerns the new 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbo engine. This is a set of regulations.
In 2013 the racing team will take part in all WTCC races under the name “HONDA Racing Team JAS”. At the wheel of the second racing Honda will be the old expert Gabriele Tarquini and the Portuguese Tiago Monteiro.
