Asian hypercar S9 wants to conquer the market with 1.400 hp
China overtakes America for the land of opportunity. But the Asian country, in addition to many imitations and copies, also puts together interesting creations of its own. Like the Hongqi S9, a plug-in hybrid hypercar with 1.400 hp under the hood.
Designed by Walter de Silva
Honqi is one of the oldest automobile manufacturers in China. The Hongqi S9 was presented as a concept vehicle at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019, to mark the 70th birthday of the People's Republic of China. Now the Asian car manufacturers from Changchun want to launch their own hybrid hypercar in a joint venture with Italy's design company.
The Hongqi S9 was designed by former VW design chief Walter de Silva.
Concept of New Luxury
"I wish that the S9 will convey the beauty of its performance with the aesthetics and sporty elegance to its future owner," says Walter des Silva
Less is more, because the S9 shows a good balance between aerodynamics, its proportions and the timeless design.
1,9 seconds on Tempo 100
So far not too many details have leaked out. However, it is known that the Hongqi S9 should accelerate to 1,9 kilometers per hour in 100 seconds. Its top speed is said to be 402 km/h. It is powered by a 4,0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
According to the manufacturer, it is possible that the plug-in hybrid with its electric drive can cover a range of 40 kilometers.
Limited Hypercar
99 pieces of the Chinese supercar are said to be planned. It is to be built in the Italian automotive region of Emilia Romagna. Deliveries are said to be scheduled for next year. Whether the S9 will be available worldwide or will be sold in China is still in the stars. But we can well imagine that the 1.400 hp of the S9 will also come at a price.
