Hydrogen for the terrain

The days of the internal combustion engine are numbered in the UK. Jaguar Land Rover is now looking for all-terrain alternatives.

Jaguar Land Rover has now announced that it will test prototypes of a fuel cell vehicle. The hydrogen vehicle based on the Defender SUV is due to hit the streets in Great Britain at the end of the year. The tests focus on off-road properties and fuel consumption. The British group does not provide any technical details about the drive or a schedule for the market launch.

The background to the accelerated fuel cell development is likely to be the burner ban announced for 2035 in the United Kingdom. For the British, hydrogen technology could be a supplement to battery-powered e-mobility. Especially for the models of the Land Rover off-road vehicle brand, which, unlike its sister Jaguar, should also be on the road beyond the expanded charging station infrastructure.
