Hyundai surprises with a new SUV

It came as a surprise to the auto world when Hyundai announced a new model called the Bayon. Now experts in the industry suspect that it could be a sister model of a Kia. The new SUV from Hyundai was named after the French city of Bayonne. It is not known why this name was chosen.

Entry into the world of SUVs

The new one from Hyundai should be something like the entry ticket into the world of SUVs for the company. The SUV, which is the length of a small car, is very likely the pedant for the Kia "Stonic". The engine is likely to come from this model, a gasoline engine with three and four cylinders offering a power range of 84 or 120 hp. Apparently the first pictures of the Hyundai "Bayon" have already appeared, but they only show the lettering of the model and a rear light that is reminiscent of a boomerang.

Also worth seeing from the inside

While the new SUV from Hyundai looks quite massive at first glance, its interior is surprisingly elegant. There is a digital cockpit with an infotainment system and touchscreen function. The size of the car is quite considerable at four meters and 4,10 meters, depending on the model, and is reminiscent of the also new Hyundai i20. The “Bayon” apparently shares the entire technical basis with the small car. It is shifted with a 6-speed gearbox, optionally the Koreans also offer a seven-speed double clutch automatic. Both options are intended for the new SUV.

When will the SUV be launched?

Everyone who is interested in the new SUV from Hyundai has to be patient. The car will likely come to Europe in the first half of 2021, currently only one Erlkönig has been spotted. How much the “Bayon” will cost is not yet clear, but it is already seen as a strong competitor for the Ford EcoSport and the “Arona” from Seat.
