News: Mazda MX-5 - Open to driving pleasure

The fourth generation of the Mazda MX-5 should delight drivers of driving fun even more than the summer roadsters have already done

With the Mazda MX-5 began the roadster renaissance a quarter of a century ago. The latest generation relies again on the driving pleasure recipe of the original model, is lighter, handier and sportier than its direct predecessor. But not more expensive: the basic price is 22.990 euros (96 kW / 131 hp). Until September, fans in this country still have to wait for the roadster.

The technicians managed to save more than 100 kilograms of weight compared to the predecessor, which reduced the unladen weight to around one ton. In addition, they ensured a lower center of gravity, and the roadster with a minimally shrunk wheelbase was ten centimeters shorter than before (3,92 meters). These are all factors that make the driving enthusiasts hope for sportier handling.

Technically, the classic configuration of the predecessor is used: rear-wheel drive and naturally aspirated engines. The high-revving units with 1,5 and 2,0 liter displacement deliver 96 kW / 130 PS and 118 kW / 160 PS - the MX-5 does not get any stronger, but should achieve better driving performance thanks to the reduced weight.

The soft top continues to fold by hand. The entry-level version includes full-LED headlights, power windows, air conditioning, audio system and 16-inch rims as standard. Four equipment levels are available. The more powerful gasoline engine costs at least 26.890 euros and can be combined with the two highest equipment lines.
