McLaren "Super Series" sports car series enters the second round. The new model 720S replaces 650S after two years of construction. In addition to more power, less weight and a new look, there are also minor improvements: for example, an easier entry.
As the model name implies, the V8 engine placed behind the two seats now carries 720 PS instead of 650 PS. For this purpose, the double-charged engine was largely rebuilt, among other things, the capacity of 3,8 grew to 4,0 liter. In addition, a thoroughly modified chassis with a high carbon content, which is lighter with 1.283 kilograms 18 kilograms than before. The sprint from zero to 100 km / h is completed by the mid-engine athlete in 2,9 seconds, speed 200 is reached after 7,8 seconds. The top speed is 341 km / h. Official, but probably highly theoretical consumption value: 10,7 liters on 100 kilometers.
Completely new is the cockpit. Even the entry is easier thanks to the new body structure. This allows a larger opening angle for the butterfly doors. More than a nice gag are the retractable instruments that disappear when switching to the race track mode in the dashboard and show a small slot only the really relevant information. In other respects, the McLaren, however, relies on everyday practicality: So the front can be raised for rides on parking garage ramps, thanks to very thin columns also the clarity of maneuvering for a vehicle of this class is unusually good.
The McLaren 720S will be released in May. German customers pay at least 247.350 Euro for the road sports car - around 16.000 Euro more than for the 650S. Those who do not want to make up their minds can wait a bit longer. The 720S is just the prelude to a model offensive by the British.
