Mitsubishi ASX - Now with a family face

The Mitsubishi will soon get a compact brother in the form of the Eclipse SUV. At least that's what the new concept car could be called

The changes usual for a facelift are now available from Mitsubishi ASX of model year 2017. “Dynamic Shield” in the poetry of the marketing language is what the designers call the somewhat more strikingly drawn front that the ASX is now turning into the wind. The darkened grill with black horizontal slats in connection with chrome clasps, the plastic diamond logo and the unusually shaped bumper as well as a new underrun protection are to give the SUV, available from 19.490 euros, a more dynamic face.

But Mitsubishi has not only made visual changes to the 4,36 meter long vehicle. The navigation and audio systems were also modernized. Among other things, there is now a 6,1-inch touchscreen monitor. New improvements include a new menu graphic and a more convenient Bluetooth connection for mobile phones.

Nothing has changed in the good space for passengers and luggage. The loading compartment swallows 419 liters and can be expanded up to 1.219 liters (backrests divided 60:40) on a flat surface. However, the loading sill is quite high at almost 80 centimeters.

The range of engines remains unchanged. The basic drive is the 1,6-liter petrol engine with 86 kW / 117 hp, which transfers its power to the front wheels via a manual five-speed gearbox. The entry-level diesel, on the other hand, a 1,6-liter four-cylinder with 84 kW / 114 hp is equipped with a six-speed gearbox and is available with both front and four-wheel drive. The top version is powered by a 2,2 liter diesel (110 kW / 150 PS), it is generally delivered with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic.

Despite the impressive torque of 360 Newton meters, which is present at 1.500 rpm, the quiet and smooth-running engine lacks a bit of pressure when accelerating. The smoothly and absolutely jerk-free automatic converter change takes a lot of power here. If you like, you can also change gears using shift paddles on the steering wheel.

Mitsubishi has launched two special models to pave the way for the new model year for the ASX, which has been offered in Germany since 2010 and has been sold 57.000 times. The “Diamond Edition” at a price of 21.990 euros is reserved for the base petrol and, according to the manufacturer, brings a customer advantage of 1.400 euros due to the additional equipment. 18-inch aluminum wheels, electrically folding exterior mirrors and fender flares, fog lights and a silver-colored underride guard are included in the price. Inside there are piano lacquer applications, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel and Bluetooth interfaces for audio and hands-free systems. The "Diamant Edition +" (23.490 euros) still has a roof railing in black, dark tinted windows and xenon headlights. A five-year guarantee applies to all versions. (Wolfgang Schaffer)
