PickUp your Style - The new Mitsubishi L200 in the Men & Women Test!
Progress, modernity, even hip lifestyle - these are words that the Mitsubishi L200 does not know. He is a worker, a pure workhorse, who is at the road construction office or in the forest at the forester home. At least that's what the registration numbers say. Mitsubishi itself mentions a high number of 80% business customers moving the L200 in hard use.
It's different in the US. There is PickUp driving cult, even "cool" with the younger drivers. In Germany, in this niche of the vehicle market, the Ford Ranger and the still very young VW Amarok, Both come with powerful chrome-plated rollover tubes, wide rollers for more show than purpose.
We do the lifestyle check in and around Weimar from the point of view of a man and from the perspective of our lifestyle colleague Katharina. How does the revised L200 arrive?

The new L200 is already the fifth generation of the "world car", as Mitsubishi says internally. Globally, the Japanese brand with the three diamonds in the logo, which has been growing vigorously since its takeover in Germany by the Emil Frey Group, is once again selling more vehicles. Around 200.000 units in 150 countries are the current sales target for the L200.
Even before the market launch in September, the new L200 receives the "Pick-up of the Year" award in the UK. A special award, as it has been awarded in the largest and most competitive European market of the L200.
For my ride out into the "Outback" I choose a L200 in iridescent lifestyle blue. A little color shows well between mud brown and pebble gray. I do not drive the L200 as a workhorse of the road maintenance. So open the door and swing into the new saddles.
"More felt car" should it be, the new L200, we learn at the press conference. At least the seats deserve the predicate absolutely. I do not sit so comfortably, comfortably soft, but without sinking into it. Without lateral support, but we do not drive with high G-forces around the curves. The rest of the cockpit can not deny its more rustic descent and its intended use. But that's ok, that's what he's built for.
At the front, the new all-aluminum XTUMX chokes "Clean Diesel" with 2,4 PS, which is also available in a stronger version than in Katharina's emergency vehicle. But he has an automatic. I would rather masculine way the gears of the new manual six-speed manual gear preferring individually. A light trucker feel, somewhere between a Canadian lumberjack and a California high school boy driving to McDrive in a pickup truck.
The driving itself is "car-like", but still a bit distant from it. Very soft tuned, just perfect for off-road, I swing in high seating position across the road until I finally reach some dirt road. Laughing for the L200 with its "Super Select 4WD II" four-wheel drive system. If it's up to him, we could go through the Kalahari without further specification, but today I leave it at the dirt road on the outskirts of Weimar.
So I stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere, on rusty railroad tracks, where I do not know, is there anyone here or is this the end of civilization? The side window down, legs stretched out and opened a cool can of non-alcoholic beer. Thoughts and looks are free. As free as you feel in the large interior of the L200, as the space was significantly increased compared to its predecessor.
A L200 in the "home buyer" configuration is still a special car. One that can do something that not every private person needs. But for the car buyers, who are looking for something more individual, more individual than a different colored roof trim, who like outdoor activities and a vehicle that is more like a good buddy with a barbecue, steaks and a crate of beer on the barrel Loading area for camping and grilling rides, which takes place in new L200 a "casual" companion.
