Mulliner develops 22 inch carbon rims for the Bentayga

After years of development with one of the world's leading suppliers of composite materials, Bentley today announces a new carbon fiber wheel specially designed for the Bentayga. The 22-inch carbon wheel developed by the renowned specialist Bucci composites was developed to be the largest carbon wheel in the world and offers a multitude of advantages that go beyond the initial improvement in the unsprung mass of 6 kg per wheel.

The new carbon wheel was subjected to the particularly strict TÜV standards (Technical Monitoring Association) and was the first carbon wheel to ever pass all tests. The newly developed rim has been subjected to the strictest tests for non-metallic wheels in accordance with the new TÜV standards, including biaxial load tests, radial and side impact tests to simulate potholes and cobblestones, tire overpressure and excess torque that exceed the permissible limit values.

One of the toughest tests of the TÜV requirements - the impact test - has shown that, in addition to the performance advantages, the carbon rim is extremely safe. After a violent impact that would crack or smash an aluminum wheel and the tire would collapse like an explosion, the carbon fiber rim enables slow tire pressure thanks to the intelligent layering of fiber fabrics, so that the vehicle comes to a controlled and safe stop.

For the final acceptance tests, the bike was used on one of the most famous tracks in the world - the Nürburgring Nordschleife - Put through its paces.
