In Bavaria, however, things can look very different and, above all, the weather can change quickly. For this reason, there are now useful tips that should help you to drive your car safely even in harsh winter months.
A careful and considerate driving style is part of the basic training of every license holder. In winter we recommend even more patience, sensitivity and foresight. The braking distance increases immensely when driving in winter, especially on snow and ice and you should always pay attention to other road users, or think for those who may be overwhelmed.
Even without a heavy onset of winter, freezing moisture or an icy gust during the day are enough to turn the damp ground into a slide surface. This danger is not always obvious at first glance. Especially in curves, on bridges and in the forest, you should be even more careful and, above all, increase the distance to the person in front.
Winter tires or tires suitable for winter are required by law. We recommend at least four millimeters of residual profile, in addition, you should first make sure that the car is winterized: windscreen cleaning fluid, antifreeze, battery check. Lubricate doors with talc and check all lighting.
Abrupt braking maneuvers are taboo in winter (on snow and ice), unless it is an emergency stop. Then the vehicle remains steerable thanks to ABS and ESP. However, one should try to avoid abrupt steering movements.
In winter, the tact and the generous timing should determine our everyday life, rather get up a few minutes earlier and get the vehicle ready to go. In addition to completely defrosting the windows and headlights, you should also sweep the snow off the roof and think about how to sit in the vehicle.
Clearly: Thick winter jackets must be taken off while driving, as these can impair the function of the seat belt.

Nevertheless: do not let the engine warm up, but drive off directly at low engine speeds. It is best to park the vehicle itself in a garage or under a carport, a direct parking lot on the street or under trees cannot be recommended as it could be damaged here.
The fuels that you can get at the gas station in winter are winterproof. This is not a problem with petrol or super anyway, with diesel there is initially a transition diesel and from the 16. November then the winter diesel. While the normal diesel from TOTAL has a refrigeration suitability of up to -22 °, this is surpassed by the TOTAL Excellium Diesel. TOTAL Excellium works thanks to other additives and a different formulation down to -30 ° and also offers an engine cleaning effect.
