Graphic: traffic jams in German cities

Car traffic in Germany has declined due to the corona measures, But there are still traffic jams, even in the big cities.

Hamburg is no longer the traffic jam capital of Germany. According to the current TomTom Traffic Index 2020, Berlin now takes this place with a traffic jam level of 30 percent; Last year, Hamburg came in second with 29 percent. Wiesbaden ranks third with 26 percent, as the Statista chart shows. The level indicates how much longer drivers need for an average journey than they would without a traffic jam.

The TomTom Traffic Index has examined car traffic in 26 cities in Germany based on anonymous GPS data from navigation users. Due to the corona pandemic, the time lost due to traffic jams and traffic delays has decreased in all cities in Germany over the past year.
