The tension increases - the performance poker between Audi and Co
On May 14th to 17th it is finally time again for the famous ADAC Zurich 24h race is at the door. On the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the teams that took great care during the preparation period did not show the targeted strengths to the outside world what was under the engines and in the drivers.
It will be exciting even before the start of the race, because this year it is not only the drivers who are fighting among themselves, but also the largest and best-known automobile brands are doing their homework. Among other things, the Audi R8 LMS competes against the BMW Z4 GT3. Voltage is already programmed here, but that's not all. A small army of Porsche 911 GT3 and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 are also honored on the Nordschleife.
In addition to the well-known and long-established vehicle manufacturers, some newcomers are also coming this year. In addition to Nissan appear in the preliminary rounds Aston Martin, Bentley and Lexus. The surprise candidate for this race was the SCG 003c announced. Who knows, maybe one of the newcomers will win this year? The newcomers always have competitive vehicles.
Unfortunately, the fans already had to 24-hour qualifying race say goodbye to some opponents. Unfortunately, the performance was not sufficient for these - or did you not have the opportunity to live out your full potential? Who knows, the fans can definitely look forward to the race with excitement.
The first favorite for the 24h race has already been determined
After the second VLN run, the fans and the pilots had already identified a clear favorite. It is the Audi R8 LMS. Already in the preparation time and the first races, the Audi team was able to achieve a double victory with their vehicle, which gives many fans hope.
Nico Bastian, who took third place on an AMG gullwing, commented on the steep start of Audi as follows: "Our SLS is a very mature long-distance car, but we are certainly not the fastest." "Audi has already demonstrated a strong performance."
According to their own statements, even the Audi drivers are enthusiastic about the new Audi vehicle and firmly believe in its performance. Even if Audi's victory is very likely to be assessed as probable, one thing can be said in addition: the competition apparently could not or did not want to reveal its full potential at the second VLN race, because at ROWE Racing, for example, the preparations for the 24-hour Race in the foreground.
So it will be interesting to see whether Audi's victory would work again if all the competitors were at full power. Unfortunately, there was also a setback on the race weekend because the HARIBO Racing Team had to put the Mercedes SLS AMG GT on hold due to gearbox damage.
Hot newcomer Bentley could be dangerous for Audi
The tension that can be sliced after the weekend has also been generated by the HTP Motorsport Group and Bentley. Because Lance-David Arnold put the Continental GT3 in pole position and finished fourth at the end of the race. This makes the British an insider tip when it comes to betting - because it's not so easy to get a pole position in the first race.
In addition to the Bentley, one should not lose sight of the four BMW Z4 GT3s with factory drivers. Even if the performance of the BMW Sports Trophy Team did not look exhilarating at first and the vehicles only ended up in fifth and sixth place, you have to keep in mind that the vehicles started in 26th place and made up a lot of places.
It remains to be seen which balance of power will be shown in the coming weeks. We are looking forward to a great race.
