New Peugeot 308

More space, more technology, fresh design - this is how the third generation of the Peugeot 308 could be summed up. It will be launched in autumn this year.

The new Peugeot 308 presents itself further developed in an evolutionary style. The front of the new generation now fits in well with the current Peugeot family and expresses the relationship with the 208 and the recently revised SUV 3008 and 5008. Concise rear lights give the lower middle class chic, and the new brand logo is emblazoned as a badge on the front fenders . Together with the free metallic paint color "Olivine Green", the new 308 looks fresh and cool. It has also become longer, it now stretches to a length of 4,36 meters. Around half of the 11 centimeters increase is due to the wheelbase to make the second row more spacious. A 2 centimeter flatter silhouette emphasizes the trend towards sportiness.

During a first seat test behind the modified i-cockpit - this is what the manufacturer calls its deliberately small and unconventionally positioned steering wheel - in addition to the modified 3D surface of the instrument cluster consisting of a display, the completely redesigned ten-inch touchscreen is noticeable. At the bottom there is a bar on which you can define various shortcuts in order to be able to use personally preferred features more quickly.

Features is a good keyword, because the new 308 offers many of them in the form of various driver assistants - including an automatic overtaking function for the first time. The Crosstraffic Alert, which warns of poorly visible traffic when reversing out of a parking space, is likely to be incomparably more useful; In addition, the technicians have given the youngest Peugeot another camera for the 360 degree application, so that the image is built up immediately and you don't have to drive a few meters, which contradicts the idea of this function. In addition, the manufacturer now promises a razor-sharp camera image. Adaptive LED matrix headlights and massage seats are further goodies to make the compact one attractive.

The fact that it is based on the EMP2 platform is related to the engine range designated. Accordingly, it was important for the French to install two plug-in hybrids (optionally with 132 KW / 180 PS or 165 kW / 225 PS) that are powerful on the one hand and low-emission on the other - provided that their owners often move them purely electrically with externally supplied power Electricity from the 12,4 kWh traction battery.

Classically, the third 308 also rolls to dealers with conventional petrol and diesel engines between 81 kW / 110 and 96 kW / 130 PS. According to speculation, a fully electric variant could complement the offer, as well as a version of the recently introduced PSE series (Peugeot Sport Engineered) with 221 kW / 300 PS analogous to the 3008 plug-in hybrid. Orders for the 308 will start next June, with delivery scheduled to begin in September. The manufacturer is currently silent on the prices, so far the 308 starts at 22.700 euros.
