New rules for private driving services

Politicians have now regulated the legal framework for private transport services more precisely. And holds on to a distinguishing feature compared to classic taxis.

Private driving services are now expressly allowed. The Federal Council has approved the reform of passenger transport law, which brings companies such as Uber and Moia out of the legal gray area in Germany. Like taxis, they are now officially allowed to carry passengers. However, as with rental car services and in contrast to taxis, vehicles with no order are still obliged to return to the company headquarters. They have to be booked by phone or online, waving to or spontaneously boarding is not possible. In the future, however, municipalities will be able to allow several suitable parking locations for rental cars instead of a central base.
