Chevrolet revamps its iconic Camaro: The sixth generation is a little shorter and much lighter, but it should be stronger and also more economical. Inside, higher-quality materials and current technologies are introduced.
Based on the Alpha platform from General Motors, the Camaro 28 percent becomes more torsionally rigid. Through the use of aluminum, the muscle car loses more than 90 kilos, among other things. The design makes the sixth generation appear more muscular, even if it has become just under six inches less in length (4,78 meters) and two in width (1,90 meters) has become slightly smaller.
Base engine is a 2,0-liter four-cylinder with 201 kW / 279 PS, which with a 0 to 100 acceleration of under six seconds and a consumption of 7,8 liters / 100 km a balance between fun and thrift should offer and the title of the most efficient Camaro ever carries.
The most powerful Camaro SS is powered by the 6,2-liter V8, which made its debut in the Corvette Stingray. It provides 323 kW / 440 horsepower and 610 Newtonmeter torque. In between is a new 3,6-liter V6 with 246 kW / 330 PS. The units can be combined with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. For the first time in the Camaro SS, the Magnetic Ride Control System is offered, which analyzes road conditions up to 1.000 times per second and adjusts the dampers.
The interior is redesigned and tailored to the driver. He looks at both analogue instruments and a display in which, for example, navigation information is shown. Another screen is located in the center console and incorporates the latest My Link system from Chevrolet.
The current values apply to the US model. In the States, the sale will start later this year. The American icon arrives in Europe in the first half of the year 2016. Specifications and prices are not known yet. Currently costs the Camaro in this country around 40.000 Euro.
