News: Fiat Aegea - A successor to the Bravo

Since the expiry of Bravo, which has recently had little success in Germany, Fiat is no longer represented in the important compact segment. At the Istanbul Auto Show (22 until 31 May), a new model is now celebrating its world premiere, which will be launched in Turkey and 2016 in slightly modified form at the end of the year, also in Germany. The unusual thing about it: It is a notchback sedan.

Aega is the name of the 4,50 meter long sedan in a very pleasant Italian design, in Germany it will probably have a different name. The main markets for the four-door car built in Turkey are initially Southern Europe, Africa and the Middle East, where the notchback is the preferred body shape. In Germany, the flanged-on trunk lid still has a bit of the boorishness to it, even if compact premium vehicles with notchbacks are already available with the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes CLA and models such as the VW Jetta or the Opel Astra Sedan are now well designed.

In the medium term, Fiat wants to add more body versions of the new model, including the popular hatchback in this country and probably a station wagon. Technically, the 4,50 meter long sedan is remotely related to the model Giulietta the sister company Alfa Romeo. For the drive are two diesel and two petrol engine with performance between 70 kW / 95 PS and 88 kW / 120 PS to choose from, coupled to manual and automatic transmission. The most fuel-efficient variants are to make do with less than four liters of fuel.

Premiere has the Western Europe version of the sedan at the IAA in Frankfurt. At the earliest then also the prices are called, which could start with approximately 15.000 euro.
