News: Suzuki Celerio - So simple, so clever

Nobody needs more car: 3,60 has the length Suzuki Celerio everything a small vehicle needs today: four doors, five seats, behind the back seats the largest luggage compartment in its class (254 liters), a very economical engine in reality and a starting price of under 10.000 Euro. One can also count on his strengths that almost all of his strengths are listed.

At least 9.690 Euro you pay for the Japanese Kleinstwagen, then include front electric windows, on-board computer, radio preparation and power steering on board - with basic equipment of the competitors whose price list starts under 10.000 Euro, is not all of course. Our test car drove in the middle equipment "club" before (10.890 euro) and fulfilled among other things with radio, air conditioning system, speakerphone, central locking with radio remote control all the basic needs, which one puts on micro car mobility. Optionally, the Eco-Plus package (1.100 Euro) was on board, which, among other things by the use of a start-stop system, the standard consumption by 0,7 liters lowers - but more later.

To be honest, you do not need more to get from A to B. And arrived at B, you miss the (not available) Park beeper. Because after good old mini-car style you can overlook the Japanese thanks straight sloping rear end and short front of the driver's seat well and twirl with smooth steering in the smallest gaps. Despite its brevity, one sits well in the front Celerio, behind decently as an adult for short distances still kommod, also because the roof is not coupéhaft-chic drops and thus does not restrict the headroom.

Which brings us to a (supposed) weakness of the small car: Because it is not pretty. Especially in direct comparison with lifestyle competitors like Opel Adam (from 11.950 euros) or Fiat 500 (from 12.250 euros), the Celerio looks like a shy braces schoolgirl between two lavishly painted cheerleaders. Even the simple interior - black and gray plastic desert with a bit of silver-colored trim - cannot compete with the modern, colored interiors, apart from the fact that apart from the hands-free system, no connectivity is offered. Other functional small cars such as the Opel Karl (from 9.500 euros with power steering, manual window lifters and manual door locking) are more like a collar of the Celerio.

But for the relatively low price you do not have to compromise on the B-note. Who strikes the thin-skinned door for the first time imagines himself in a car from the 1990ern. In addition, Celerio received three out of five stars in the crash test of the organization Euro-NCAP. Among other things because no assistance systems, such as an emergency brake assistant, are standard. Only the mandatory program of ABS, four airbags, ESP and Gurtpiepser front are always on board. The maximum score is currently almost impossible for micro cars, but cars such as Mitsubishi Space Star, Renault Twingo, Toyota Aygo or Opel Adam received at least four stars.

Anyone who enjoys relaxed cruising is wrong at the Celerio. Where the only offered 1,0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 55 kW / 68 PS the lightweight (900 kg) absolutely sufficient motorized. But in the test, the small unit needed high speeds to get going at all. Under 2.000 revolutions, he reluctantly took on gas and jerky at times unpredictable, which annoyed especially in city traffic, where you would like to drive 30 km / h relaxed in second gear. On the highway, the microcar reaches a maximum of 155 km / h, which is due to the then nervous road conditions, a conditionally recommendable travel speed.
Hervortun could the Japanese in a miniature cars again typical, but now almost old-fashioned seeming discipline: He also approached in practice very close to his determined on the chassis dynamometer standard consumption of 3,6 liters. In city and interurban traffic with motorway share not over 120 km / h (as I said, no fun) we were at 4,4 liters with quite potential down. So you get with the 35-liter tank so almost 800 miles. Pretty good for a microcar.

Simple, simple, simple - adjectives that do not necessarily have a negative connotation. The little Japanese is a manageable car, among other things in terms of comfort, but also in parking, price and operating costs. That's a strength that not all vehicles in this class have.
