Three letters. With just three additional letters, Volkswagen turned the world of compact and affordable sports cars upside down in 1976. The first Golf GTI had a displacement of 1.6 liters and 110 hp - today in the seventh generation it is tuners like the Allgäu VW specialist ABT who are giving the Volkswagen Golf GTI back its fascination that has been diluted over the years.
Operation at the heart

ABT GOLF GTI
With a special front grille and a deep, dynamically drawn front spoiler lip, the face of the ABT-GTI exudes the sporting verve of a classic that has just left the gym. The Golf GTI, presented by ABT with a decent performance boost, is reminiscent of its great-great-grandfather. The Power-Golf tears long stretches of the motorway with a grin on the driver's face. Thanks to the increase in performance of 70 PS, the Golf pulls through more dynamically than ever and when you look at the speedometer, you can't avoid small cheers. On the angled country roads in southern England, the GTI is displaying its strengths in terms of maneuverability and roadholding. Fast and controlled around curves of every kind, no special task for the GTI and especially in the ABT performance trim a real treat for the driver. The steering always gives a particularly memorable contact to the road and the ABT version of the GTI is more handy than ever.
Two liters of displacement and just 300 PS and all the power is brought on the front axle on the road. What seemed unthinkable a few years ago is no longer a major problem thanks to the experience and the convincing fine tuning of the experts from the Allgäu region.
Only with very spirited exits and wavy patchwork you want a mechanical lock on the front axle, so that none of the 290 horses in the form of rubber smoke is lost.
