Driving license from 16 years?

The driver's license from the age of 17 is popular with young people. So it is not surprising that young people in particular would like to get behind the wheel even earlier.

How do motorists in Germany feel about the government's plans accompanied driving already possible from the age of 16? A survey commissioned by the online portal Autoscout24 shows that 53 percent of respondents are in favor of reducing the age. 45 percent are against it. Above all, respondents in the age group between 18 and 39 support driving from the age of 16 (61 percent). 52 percent of 40 to 49 year olds are also in favor of it. The approval rate decreases as the survey participants get older. From the age of 50, 54 percent are against the driver's license from the age of 16. 

Who is currently allowed to have a driver's license?

Since 2011, there has been a nationwide opportunity in Germany to get a driving license from the age of 17. Up to the age of majority, an adult must be on board as an accompanying person. This driver must be at least 30 years old and have held a valid driving license (B, class 3) for at least five years.
