Peugeot sends his mini-SUV in the next round. The crossover is no longer quite as small as before.
After the small car Peugeot 208 is now also its crossover cousin 2008 in the next generation. The mini-SUV is beefier and more robust, it grows vigorously in length and is offered for the first time in an electric version. Prices should start just below 20.000 Euro.
Externally, the high-rise five-door is now based consistently on brand design, as it shapes the small car 208, but especially the compact SUV 3008. Compared to the still slightly van-like predecessor, the new appears much edged and present. Characteristics such as the steeply rising shoulders and the color-contrasting roof ensure independence. In the cockpit, the 2008 closely follows the smaller 208, offering digital instruments and the typical small Peugeot steering wheel. The interior and especially trunk (434 liters) promise more space than the predecessor, which is mainly due to the increased dimensions of the vehicle. With 4,30 meters, the new 2008 is about 14 inches longer than the old model, and the width of the previously comparatively narrow crossovers has evidently at least grown a bit.
When offering engines Peugeot sets not only on updated engines from its predecessor, but offers analogous to the 208 for the first time an electric drive. The core data: 100 kW / 136 PS engine power, 50 kWh battery capacity and 310 kilometer range (WLTP). The conventional portfolio consists of three 1,2-liter petrol engines with power ratings between 75 kW / 100 PS and around 114 kW / 155 PS, on the diesel side there are two 1,5-liter engines with 74 kW / 100 PS and around 96 kW / 130 PS , The power transmission worried at the weaker engines, a manual six-speed transmission, in the stronger versions operates a eight-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is still not provided.
The technical arsenal in the form of assistants and infotainment system is up to date. In addition to helping for lane keeping and emergency braking, there is an improved parking automatic, which comes with smaller gaps clearly than before. Peugeot officially does not yet call prices for the new 2008, but they should be at the level of its predecessor and thus in the class usual range just below 20.000 Euro. The electric version will probably start noticeably above 30.000 Euro. Among the competitors of the smallest Peugeot SUV include the Opel Crossland X, the Renault Captur and the upcoming Ford Puma.
