The automaker Toyota and Nissan are expanding their recalls for faulty airbags. Around five million vehicles are affected worldwide, and just under 160.000 in Germany. It is again the air cushions that were made by the Japanese supplier Takata. They have already led to recall of millions of cars, including from several other car manufacturers.
Toyota has initiated various investigations into the expanded recall of 153.000 cars in Germany: Corolla, Yaris, Avensis Verso, Picnic, which were produced between March 2003 and March 2007 and Rav4 and Hilux between July 2003 and December 2005. At Nissan are between May 2000 and November 2003 built X-Trail, Pick-up, Pathfinder and Patrol affected, according to the manufacturer, only about 5.500 of them are allowed in Germany. In all cases, affected holders are contacted by the Federal Motor Transport Authority and then contact the manufacturer's workshop, where the exchange takes between 40 minutes and four hours.
So far, lawyers have assumed five fatalities and many injuries in the faulty Takata airbags. The air cushions may not deploy properly or explode too much. Other manufacturers such as Mazda, Honda, Ford and BMW have already recalled cars with supplier airbags because of this problem.
