Nissan: billions milestone for the Leaf

The owners of the Nissan Leaf have traveled one billion kilometers worldwide to date, more than 180 million kilograms of CO2 saved. In fact, there are even more miles and CO saved2Emissions. After all, only those electric vehicles that are registered with the Nissan CarWings telematics system and whose mileage can be recorded by Nissan were included in the calculation. This applies to around 54 percent of the Nissan Leaf sold worldwide.

The first billion kilometers driven is a significant milestone in the History of the Nissan Leaf, When it was launched in 2010, the Leaf was one of the world's first mass-produced, all-electric vehicles. Today, it is the best-selling electric car of all time, with more than 147.000 sold units worldwide, of which around 31.000 in Europe.

Thanks to the innovative CarWings telemetry system, Nissan has been able to track the total mileage of every single leaf registered at CarWings since its launch. With the help of an online counter at / future-today / nissan-electric.htmlInternet users were able to follow the hunt for the first billion and celebrate with interesting videos about the Leaf and its owners.

"We originally wanted to reach the first billion in January 2015 and now we are of course particularly pleased that we reached this milestone even earlier than expected," said Paul Willcox, Chairman of Nissan Europe. "We thank every single Leaf owner for helping make this unique premiere possible."

"The Nissan Leaf was the first family-friendly mass-produced vehicle with an electric drive and the customer satisfaction values are higher with the Leaf than with any other Nissan model," continues Willcox. "This new range record shows that many of our customers obviously can't get enough of the enjoyment of quiet and emission-free driving."

One billion kilometers driven - this number reflects the success of the Nissan Leaf and impressively underscores Nissan's leadership in electromobility. Nissan recently expanded this leadership position with the introduction of the e-NV200: the brand's second electric car is a compact and emission-free city delivery van.
