Opel, Fiat and Abarth become e-brands

The stellantis-Group is to be electrified to a large extent. Now she has Opel- and Fiat-Mother called more specific plans.

The Stellantis Group wants his E-car- Massively expand share. By 2030, 70 percent of sales in Europe and 40 percent in the USA are to be achieved with “low emission vehicles”. To this end, the company plans to invest more than 2025 billion euros by 30.

Electric in the next few years

The 14 group brands - from the small car specialist Fiat to the pick-up manufacturer RAM - are to electrify up to 98 percent of their models. The German brand Opel is to become a pure electric manufacturer in Europe by 2028, Fiat in the period between 2025 and 2030 - depending on how quickly electric models close the price gap to the combustion engine. The sports car offshoot Abarth, which is less dependent on low costs, wants to be purely electric by 2024. The US brands Dodge and Ram have announced their first electric models for the same date. Jeep has already started electrifying its range. Alfa Romeo is to become "e-Alfa" by 2026.

New platform for big cars with a lot of range

A total of four different electrical platforms are planned for this. Cars of different sizes are to be based on the STLA Small, Medium and Large variants and offer ranges of up to 800 kilometers. The STLA frame platform is intended for pick-ups and American SUVs, also with a range of up to 800 kilometers. In some cases, the e-mobiles are to work with 800-volt technology and achieve charging capacities of up to 350 kW.

The battery range has a modular structure. In addition to conventional lithium-ion batteries, a variant without the ecologically and socially critical cobalt is also planned. From 2026, the batteries are to be manufactured in the space-saving and more efficient cell-to-pack design, at the same time solid-state batteries could go into series production. According to its own calculations, the group will need around 260 GWh from 2030, some of which will come from three of its own batteries in France, Germany and Italy. In addition, supply contracts were concluded.
