Gerry Judah's Porsche sculpture

The artist and designer Gerry Judah has created a centerpiece for the 20th century with his sculpture that defies gravity. Festival of Speed in Goodwood created. His 35-meter-high work of art lets three Porsche sports cars take off into the air.

Judah was commissioned by Porsche Great Britain to create a sculpture to celebrate “50 years of the Porsche 911”.

The impressive work of art consists of three futuristic white double supports that resemble a steel arrow that makes sports cars blow up. For the fifty years of the Porsche 911, the following models are at the top, 35m high: 911 from 1963; from 1973 a 911 Carrera RS 2.7, and the current 2013 model of the 911.

The sculpture, weighing more than 22 tons, conveys elegance in simple beauty. Each of the white-lacquered legs consists of a sheet steel casing that ends up being extremely narrow.

The artist Gerry Judah says about his artwork:

I wanted to create a work of art that not only embodies the power and elegance of the Porsche 911, but also the excitement and tension surrounding the Festival of Speed. The Porsche 911 already has a beautiful shape, so my sculpture could only be a carrier for this design. A platform to let the vehicles shine in the sky.

The idea was that each of the three vehicles would race into the sky together and yet race against each other. Perceived in a single, perfect moment. The sculpture is like the cars on it: simple, pure, and perfectly designed for the job.
