The Range Rover Evoque comes 2016 as a convertible on the market. The manufacturer has now announced this at the edge of the Geneva Motor Show. The compact SUV thus justified, at least in Europe, a new vehicle class: that of the open crossover. The basis is the three-door coupé model of the Evoque, first Erlkönig pictures show a four-seater with fabric roof and no visible roll bars.
With details, Land Rover is still back about a year before the market launch. However, the convertible should also use the well-known drive program of the newly revved SUV coupe. That means four-wheel drive will at least be an option to get under the hood, among other things, the new 2,0-liter of the brand's diesel with 150 and 180 PS. Prices are not yet known, the closed Evoque starts as three-door currently at around 35.000 Euro.
However, an SUV convertible is not quite unparalleled. Nissan has in the US a corresponding version of its large SUV Murano in the program, with convertible and four-wheel drive. The model is not a great success, the production ends shortly and there will probably be no successor. In addition, so far only have a few robust SUVs with removable roof.
