Car insurance

The insurers have that again Damage balance evaluated in the German approval districts. That has consequences.

For 9,2 million drivers in Germany, the regional class of motor vehicle liability insurance will change next year. Around 5 million have to reckon with a higher classification, 4,2 million benefit from better regional classes. Around 32,8 million people remain in their previous classes, like the Industry association GDV notifies. However, a more favorable classification does not necessarily mean lower insurance premiums. The regional class is just one of several components that influence the amount of the insurance premium for liability and comprehensive insurance.

Everyone needs insurance

Once a year, the GDV evaluates the accident rates of the vehicles registered there from the 413 German registration districts. Motorists in Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania achieved particularly good claims balances. Large cities and parts of Bavaria are listed at the other end. As in previous years, Berlin has the worst damage balance. There the damage was more than a third higher than the national average.

Even in comprehensive insurance, many motorists will be faced with changes in the regional classes: for almost 3,5 million fully or partially comprehensive insurance, better ratings will apply in the future, for a good 2 million higher ratings. With around 31,2 million policyholders - almost 85 percent - everything stays the same.
