Schloss Dyck Classic Days 2011

The Classic Days at the Dyck moated castle near Jüchen in the Neuss district are now unique in Europe. On August 6th and 7th, 2011, the Classic Days will once again attract fans, enthusiasts, visitors and owners of vintage and youngtimers to the moated castle of Dyck. The classic car and motor festival is being held there for a good cause for the sixth time.

This year the Classic Days celebrate the birthday of the automobile in 1886 - 125 years ago. The patent for the Benz motor car was filed by Carl Benz on January 29, 1886 and confirmed on November 2, 1886. Mercedes-Benz is bringing this historic motor vehicle to the castle and will demonstrate the “tricycle” in demonstration drives. Another 15 rare exhibits from the legendary Mercedes-Benz Museum will be on display.

If the oldest automobile in the world can be admired at the castle, then "companions" from the beginnings of mobility should not be missing either. Collectibles from 1887 to 1904 and brands such as De Dion Bouton, Opel Lutzmann or Ford Quadricycle, Darracq, Leon Bollee or Panhard Levassor span a historical dance at the Classic Days at the moated castle of Dyck.

Brands and stories from times long past

Brands that disappeared before the First World War are often shown while driving. In Germany alone there were more than 1.000 automobile companies up until the world economic crisis. The Classic Days tell stories like these with a special section.

Factory museums bring their vehicles into action at the Classic Days. Ford from Cologne will be presenting at the castle for the first time - motorsport with the famous racing capri is on the program here. The Porsche Museum from Stuttgart is also represented and brings racing vehicles, formula racing cars and single-seaters, racing motorcycles and touring cars roaring through the Bergahornallee. Loud visits from England have also been announced again in the form of the “wild fellows” – a “horde” of pre-war Bentleys, which always come to the Rhineland from London and the surrounding area on their own axis.

In 2011 there will be no lack of prominent drivers and participants. With the “Racing Legends” – the racing vehicles on the circuit and the “Jewels in the Park” – the vehicles in the international beauty contest Concours dÉlegance, a total of more than 200 exhibits can be seen and heard. Almost 5.000 vintage cars are expected again on the miscanthus field for the big club meeting with a picnic.

"When we celebrate 125 years of the automobile with this European highlight in the classic year at Schloss Dyck, then it would be very appropriate if all guests found their way to us in a party mood and with the look of the last 125 years," hopes Thomas Gerwers. He is addressing the wonderful tradition of having a stylish picnic at the Classic Days and, above all, always wearing contemporary clothing.

At some point we want to see significantly more people in historical racing suits, knickers and dresses than those in polo shirts and jeans. Incidentally, every visitor to the Classic Days in contemporary clothing will receive a gift as a small thank you.
