Skoda Enyaq iV Coupé premiere

VW has done it with the ID4/ID5 pair: Now Skoda is also presenting a coupé version of its electric car. And also beats its own range record.

Skoda refines its electric crossover Enyaq IV to the coupe. The second body variant of the compact model is flanked by a sporty RS variant with all-wheel drive and 220 kW/300 hp. Deliveries will start in the spring, prices should start above 40.000 euros.

Skoda makes its own coupe

The visual model of the five-door is the Vision iV study, which the VW subsidiary presented in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show. The coupé differs from the standard Enyaq primarily in the sloping roof line, which ends in a sloping tailgate with a sharp spoiler lip. There is also a separate front apron and a standard panoramic glass roof, in which a special tint is intended to prevent the interior from heating up. As with the other body variant, a radiator grille illuminated by 131 LEDs is available as an option.

There should not be any major losses in functionality due to the more dynamic lines. Behind the sloping tailgate there is still a trunk volume of 570 liters, more than many a "normal" SUV in this class can boast. In addition, the flowing roof reduces wind resistance: the Enyaq becomes more efficient, electricity consumption drops, which at the same time increases the range. If the largest battery with a usable capacity of 77 kWh is in the floor, the "iv 80" variant with rear-wheel drive can cover up to 545 kilometers (according to the WLTP cycle). It is the longest range within the series.

Range has improved

The large battery is also installed in the 195 kW/265 hp all-wheel drive model "iv 80x" and in the top version RS, which is also equipped with two motors. The ranges should be in the range of 500 kilometers in both cases. The entry-level model "iV 60" with 132 kW/179 hp and 58 kWh battery should get a little further per battery charge than the identically configured standard Enyaq, which is given as 412 kilometers. A heat pump is available as an option, which should provide a small plus in practical range, especially in the winter heating phase.

Charge power unknown

The Skoda is charged either with up to 11 kW from the AC source, which takes six to eight hours depending on the battery, or much faster with direct current. For the models with large batteries, Skoda promises between 29 and 36 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. The Czechs do not name the exact charging capacity, the standard Enyaq is between 125 and 135 kW.

In terms of price, the coupe is probably positioned just above the comparable standard model. This is available from around 35.000 euros, but then with the small 51,7 kWh battery, which is not available for the coupe. Instead, you have to use the next larger model as a reference, which is available from around 40.000 euros. There is also a prestige and design premium. The group sister VW ID.5 starts with a slightly larger battery at 47.000 euros, the Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback with a slightly smaller memory at 44.000 euros).
