Almost half a year after the sedan brings Skoda now the combi version of the Superb on the market. The simple “Combi” flagship of the brand is available from 25.590 euros with the 92 kW / 125 hp 1,4 liter petrol engine.
Compared to its predecessor, the design has become much more confident. This can be recognized, for example, by the large radiator grille and a roofline that clearly slopes towards the rear of the estate. That costs some cargo space - but the Skoda can afford that; in favor of a somewhat more noble degree, as we usually know it from Ingolstadt. Nevertheless, 660 to 1.950 liters are more than enough space for self-realization in the hardware store or furniture store. The intervertebral discs enjoy the low loading sill and the one meter wide entrance. The big Skoda is the car with which the Czech President can be driven to his castle - the legroom is accordingly ample. Eight centimeters more wheelbase than the predecessor now invite even more to loll around in the rear.
The drive program of the station wagon consists of two 1,4-liter turbo petrol engines (92 kW / 125 PS and 110 kW / 150 PS) as well as the 2,0-liter turbo petrol engine (162 kW / 220 PS) also used in the Golf GTI. The diesel range includes a 1,6-liter engine (88 kW / 120 PS) and two 2,0-liter engines (110 kW / 150 PS and 140 kW / 190 PS). Depending on the engine, the power is transmitted by means of a six-speed manual or dual clutch transmission (six or seven gears, surcharge: 2.000 euros), and all-wheel drive (surcharge approx. 1.800 euros) is available for the top engines at an additional cost. In any case, this large station wagon feels like a stately sedan of the upper class just a few years ago: absolutely precise and with a lot of road contact in the steering. There is also a very pleasant noise behavior.
The Superb is available in four equipment variants: Active, Ambition (from 28.090 with 1,4-liter petrol engine), Style (from 30.850 with 1,4-liter petrol engine) and Laurin & Klement (from 37.450 with two-liter diesel). By the way: LED lights or a virtual cockpit as in VW and Audi are not available in the Skoda. That is easy to get over, especially since the Czechs have built in many additional good ideas in addition to excellent workmanship and only slightly simpler materials: two firmly stowed umbrellas, ice scraper in the tank lid, space for 1,5 liter bottles, LED flashlight and so on. The Superb is just a “clever one”, the Swabian would say in the Mercedes.
