One Yeti becomes two: For the first time, the compact SUV of the Czechs will be available in two variants - as an elegantly styled ŠKODA Yeti for the city and as a ŠKODA Yeti trimmed for terrain and adventure for outdoor use. In both design variants, the ŠKODA Yeti captivates with a new front and rear, new aluminum wheels, fresh interiors, new 'Simply Clever' ideas, maximum functionality and extended engine-transmission combinations. The world premiere for the two new editions will be at the IAA in Frankfurt in September. Both new ŠKODA Yeti variants will be launched in the first markets at the end of 2013.
"The ŠKODA Yeti is one of the most attractive compact SUVs on the market and has far exceeded our sales expectations since its market launch four years ago," says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. hc Winfried Vahland. "With the comprehensive refreshment and the first-time offer of two variants, we are setting new trends. We want to continue our excellent development in this rapidly growing vehicle class. The Yeti is another cornerstone of the 2018 growth strategy and will further strengthen our international position in the markets, ”said Vahland.
Striking optics - now in two model variants
A special highlight is the first-time offer of two individual design lines: ŠKODA's compact SUV is now available in an elegantly styled city look and in the off-road look for trips into the field. An important differentiation: front and rear elements such as bumpers, underride protection, side strips and door sills are either in the vehicle color or - in the ŠKODA Yeti as an outdoor version - in black plastic.
The new vehicle fronts of both variants are now more emphasized horizontally and impress with their striking grille and redesigned headlights, for the first time optionally as bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front fog lights are now rectangular in accordance with the new ŠKODA design language and are now located further down in the front bumpers.
The new tail of the Yeti is clearly divided. This includes a new shape of the tailgate with distinctive tail lights in the now more precisely shaped C-design, optionally as LEDs, and in accordance with the new ŠKODA look, two cubistic triangular elements and the new ŠKODA logo.
The range of wheels has been expanded to include four newly designed, attractive light alloy wheels. In addition, the color palette is becoming wider: the four metallic paint finishes 'Moon White', 'Jungle Green', 'Metal Gray' and 'Magnetic Brown' are new. The latter is available exclusively for the Yeti L&K.
The new Yeti models have a heavily refreshed interior: with new 3-spoke steering wheels in a total of seven variants, new fabrics and patterns for the seat covers and new trim strips for the dashboard.
The first ŠKODA with a reversing camera
The Yeti is the first model of the brand with Optical Parking Assistant, an optional rear view camera. For the first time there is the latest generation of the Automatic Parking Assistant in the ŠKODA Yeti. With the new system, the Yeti automatically parks backwards and forwards along and out of longitudinal gaps. The automatic locking and starting system KESSY also celebrates its premiere in the ŠKODA Yeti.
The revised ŠKODA Yeti receives four new "Simply Clever" solutions. The double-sided floor covering in the trunk is new. There is also a removable LED light in the trunk, the safety vest holder under the driver's seat and the waste bin in the side door of the Yeti.
The VarioFlex rear seat system of the ŠKODA Yeti is and remains a highlight. It offers a unique interior variability. The three rear seats can be folded down or removed individually. The outer seats can be moved across with the center seat removed. In no time at all, the Yeti changes from a five-seater to a four-seater with enough space for the rear passengers.
There are also proven features such as the foldable backrest of the front passenger seat, folding tables on the rear of the front seats, various storage compartments or practical bottle holders. Functionality is a top priority in the trunk, including lashing eyes and fold-out luggage hooks.
The Yeti once again confirms its generous amount of space: in no other compact SUV do the rear-seated passengers have as much headroom as in the ŠKODA Yeti: 1.027 millimeters. The trunk volume is at least 405 liters. If you take out all the rear seats, the volume rises to a lush 1.760 liters.
Seven modern engines; Front and all wheel drive; manual gearbox and DSG
There are four diesel and three petrol engines to choose from for the revised ŠKODA Yeti, all turbocharged and with direct injection. The performance spectrum ranges from the 1,2 TSI with 77 kW (105 PS) to the 2,0 TDI with 125 kW (170 PS). Depending on the engine, a front or all-wheel drive with fifth generation Haldex coupling is used. As an automatic transmission, the ŠKODA Yeti only uses modern six- or seven-speed dual clutch transmissions (DSG).
The Yeti GreenLine with 1,6 TDI 77 kW (105 PS) with front-wheel drive and manual gearbox is satisfied with CO2 emissions of only 119 g / km. This corresponds to a consumption of 4,6 liters of diesel per 100 km. There are also a total of three Green tec variants for the 1,4 TSI 90 kW (122 hp), 2,0 TDI 103 kW (140 hp) with manual six-speed manual transmission and 1,6 TDI 77 kW (105 hp) with seven speed -DSG. The Green tec package includes automatic start-stop and brake energy recovery (recuperation).
The choice of engine / gearbox combinations is larger. An automatic seven-speed dual clutch transmission is now available for the front-wheel drive Yeti 1,6 TDI with 77 kW (105 PS).
Uncompromising when it comes to security
The ŠKODA Yeti is uncompromising when it comes to safety. For this, the compact SUV already received the top rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test in 2009.
Active safety is increased by ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and ABS (anti-lock braking system) with brake assist. The fog lights can optionally be equipped with a corner function. If desired, new bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights increase the visibility of the vehicle and the illumination of the road in the dark. There are electronic assistants for moving up and downhill. Also available: electronic tire pressure monitoring.
With electronically controlled all-wheel drive (fifth-generation Haldex clutch) and a ground clearance of 180 millimeters, the compact SUV is ready for any terrain. The electronic differential lock EDS enables smooth and comfortable starting on differently grippy road surfaces.
When it comes to passive safety, the Yeti impresses with up to nine airbags. There are Isofix brackets for the secure attachment of child seats. Three-point seat belts, front with belt tensioners and height adjustment, and height-adjustable headrests complete the safety package.
International success story
The Czech manufacturer celebrated its premiere in the compact SUV segment in 2009 with the ŠKODA Yeti - the fifth ŠKODA model range at the time. A total of around 30 ŠKODA Yeti have been sold to date (as of June 2013, 263.200). In 2012 alone, ŠKODA delivered around 87.400 Yeti - an increase of 24,3 percent over the previous year. And in the first half of 2013, 41.800 Yeti * went to customers worldwide. In Europe, the Yeti is one of the top 10 best-selling A-Class SUVs with a market share of around five percent, and is the clear number one in this segment on the Czech home market. The Yeti will be built there at the Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic, in Russia at the Nizhny Novgorod plant and at the end of 2013 in Shanghai, China.
The ŠKODA Yeti has been in the hearts of SUV fans since its market launch. Among other things, the Yeti was chosen as the best import off-road vehicle for less than 30.000 euros in the 'Auto Trophy' competition of the 'Auto Zeitung' magazine. The compact SUV from ŠKODA also demonstrated its qualities in the 100.000-kilometer endurance test of the specialist magazine 'auto motor und sport' with excellent results. In “unsparing everyday use”, the Yeti remained over 100.000 kilometers without any notable shortcomings.
With the revised Yeti in two variants, ŠKODA is emphatically continuing the largest model offensive in the company's history. In 2013 alone, the Czechs launched eight new or extensively revised models. By 2018, ŠKODA plans to increase its worldwide sales to at least 1,5 million vehicles a year.
