Presented at the Detroit Motor Show (January 8-22) Subaru the compact sports car WRX STi in a slightly revised version. The boxer bolide is said to offer more driving dynamics, comfort and safety. The introduction to the German market is planned for late summer 2017.
Visually, smaller retouching on the front gives a fresh look and more sharpness. Thanks to the new radiator grille, larger air intakes in the lower front apron and redesigned LED headlights, the WRX can be even more intimidating in the rear-view mirror. Inside, the sports car offers an armrest with cup holders for the rear guests, and the driver's Recaro sports seat is also electrically adjustable. In addition, new door seals and thicker side windows should ensure better acoustic comfort.
Thanks to a purely electronic control system, the center differential, which is responsible for the power distribution between the axles, should ensure better response in the future. Brembo brakes use larger discs and pads with a larger surface. It is still uncertain how much power the 2,5-liter boxer engine will produce in the German model variant. The WRX STi is currently available in Germany with 220 kW / 300 PS, the US version announced for the Detroit Motor Show is to produce 227 kW / 309 PS.
In addition to more driving dynamics, more safety is also the order of the day. This is how the eyesight package will be on board the WRX STi in the future. This includes assistance systems such as distance cruise control or collision avoidance. In the future, warnings will be projected directly into the driver's field of vision via a head-up display. Subaru only wants to reveal at a later date how much the revised WRX STi will cost in Germany. The price for the basic version is currently 41.550 euros. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
