The car restoration company Legende Automobiles, founded by four French in Los Angeles, wants to revive the iconic 80s sports car Renault 5 Turbo. The Restomod project called Turbo 3 is a new build based on an old Renault 5, which is covered with a new outer skin in the historical Turbo style. This includes a lot of new technology with significantly more power than the original.

Latest technology on the old model

To create the look of the old Renault 5 Turbo, a wide body kit made from carbon fiber parts was developed. Thanks to this, the R5 has the wide, flared wheel arches with cooling openings, which are characteristic of the Turbo, which create space for 16-inch wide tires at the front and 17-inch wide tires at the rear. At the same time, the design offers some modern accents such as a diffuser in the rear apron or the front and rear lights with LED technology.

Instead of classic analog instruments, the cockpit of the Turbo 3 has a digital instrument cluster. New sports seats, gray felt on many surfaces and some red accents give the interior a sporty chic.

More power than before

The dramatic styling outside and inside is not over the top. In the Turbo 3, a four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 400 hp is to be used, which delivers its power to the rear axle alone via a sequential gearbox. The Restomod version clearly outperforms the original. The Turbo 1980 and Turbo 1985 built between 1 and 2 had to be modest with 118 kW / 160 PS. In view of the power, Legende Automobiles converts the Turbo 3's chassis to a stable double wishbone geometry.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3 is to be built in small series. It is still unclear when the first copies will be delivered to customers. A price is also not mentioned. But it should be in the six-digit range.
