The customers are solvent, the vehicles are exclusive: Lamborghini builds Super sports car for well-heeled customers. In a few years, however, they will have to be prepared for some changes.
Almost 300.000 euros, a top speed of 310 km / h, 310 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Super sports cars like the new Huracan STO still have a future. Three questions for Lamborghini President Stephan Winkelmann, who is also the boss of Bugatti.
1. Can such cars as the Huracan survive only on e-fuel if there is an imminent ban on combustion?
No, as a first step we will hybridize the entire model range by 2024. But since we all don't know what's coming, we keep our doors open. So if synthetic gasoline is available in the early 30s, this is a good opportunity to continue working with internal combustion engines. We are also launching our first all-electric model in 2027 and will use it to prove that an electric Lamborghini can also be a real Lamborghini.
2. This electric model will then be the fourth series. Maybe a luxury limousine?
No, in our opinion the classic sedan segment is on the decline. There is also a design reason for this. The biggest buyers of sedans are the USA and Asia and these customers want a long wheelbase, which does not fit a Lamborghini. We imagine a two-door GT with 2 + 2 seats that has more ground clearance and thus a better all-round view. The best of both worlds, so to speak.
3. Lamborghini has been part of the VW Group for 23 years. How does a comparatively small manufacturer benefit from such a large family?
We clearly benefit from the Group's know-how in production, synergies in purchasing from suppliers, in the use of modules and platforms such as the upcoming software platform. Here we have an advantage over our direct competitors. Conversely, the group benefits from our expertise in small series, our leading position in the use of carbon, but also from our role as a spear syringe for solvent customers. They may also operate fleets from heavy trucks to smaller car models. In this respect, we round off the top of the group offering.
