What does the Mercedes-Benz logo mean?

The three-pointed star has been surrounded by the Mercedes-Benz logo for more than a century. With its charisma, the star presents the values that the car manufacturer has stood for to date: reliability, first-class performance and groundbreaking technology. Although the development of the logo spanned more than 120 years, the trident star introduced in 1909 became one of the most famous logos in the automotive industry.

What does the logo of Mercedes-Benz?
The first version of the logo, the word “Mercedes” surrounded by an ellipse, appeared in 1902 on cars that were still being manufactured by Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG).

In 1909 the company introduced a new brand logo, a three-pointed star without a surrounding border with three points. This trademark was designed by Gottlieb Daimler. He drew this badge on a postcard, which he sent to his wife in 1872, and swore that this picture would one day become the symbol of the automaker. Originally there was also a four-beam star, but it was never used.

At that time the star stood for class, perfection and dominance and was registered as a trademark and used on all vehicles. In 1916 the star was surrounded by a circle, the name Mercedes Benz and a laurel wreath surrounded the logo with an encircling ring. The laurel wreath was something that the ancient Greeks presented to the winners in sporty and poetic competitions. The Romans also acted where the laurel wreath was given to those who were awarded for a special achievement. In summary, the laurel wreath is not only a symbol of victory, but also a symbol of power that it has preserved to this day.

There were also four small stars on the ring to reinforce the theme of the central symbol. The laurel wreath later replaced the small Mercedes stars. In the years that followed, the star adorned the radiator and bonnets of vehicles built by Mercedes. In 1921, the automaker registered the star in the ring as a trademark, which was registered in 1923.

The free and upright star was given a new position on the radiator cap. The colors you see in Mercedes logo can see are black and silver. The silver color is characterized by sophistication, creativity and excellence. The black stands for elegance, integrity and purity.

The further development
In 1926 the entrepreneurs and car manufacturers Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz merged and founded a new company under the name Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes-Benz logo naturally came about from the merger of the two companies. However, it is important to note that it has undergone further changes since it was first created, which is why there are some significant differences between the original version and the current version.

When DMG and Benz & Cie came together, the star was combined with the laurel wreath to create the predecessor of the modern Mercedes-Benz symbol. The logo, created in 1926, combines the demands of the two manufacturers and is at the same time a piece of company history. In 1933 and later the symbol was made a bit slimmer, it has not been changed to this day.

The distinctive symmetry, monochromatic design and powerful angles make the Mercedes-Benz emblem immediately recognizable and highly valued. The Mercedes-Benz logo symbolizes reliability, first-class performance and historical conservatism, the legendary star points to the past, present and future of Mercedes-Benz.
